The Miss America Scholarship Fund offers scholarships to over 12,000 young women who compete in the state and local competitions as well as Miss America first place winner, four runners-up, semi-finalists and non-finalists.
Since 1945, the Miss America Organization, a not-for-profit organization, has recognized young women not just for beauty but also talent and intelligence. Scholarships have been an important part of the awards that have helped many young women pay for college and prepare for rewarding careers.
Scholarships include the Allman Medical Scholarship for women pursuing careers as medical doctors, Eugenia Vellner Fischer Scholarship Award for the Performing Arts for women pursuing careers in instrumental, vocal and dancing, scholarships for outstanding community service, and other local, state and national awards and scholarships. Each scholarship has its own criteria and deadlines for submission.
Contestants may enter at the state level; age criteria is between 17 and 24. Contestants then proceed to the national level. In 2012, the Miss America Organization and its state and local organizations awarded more than $45 million in cash and scholarship assistance to young women across the country.
The deadline for this scholarship VARIES each year, and the award amount is usually $2,000 - $50,000.
